Canape Class with Executive Chef - Orpheus is now offering canape classes hosted by our very own Executive Chef. Begin with the origins, then the chefs demonstration and finish with your very own creations.
High Tea at Hazards Bay - Take a short stroll up to the Lookout to enjoy a scrumptious Orpheus High Tea whilst overlooking Harzards Bay. In an area that is often prime viewing for passing sea and bird life, indulge in home-made treats including scones, sandwiches and freshly baked biscuits with a selection of tea and coffee.
Sunset Cruise - Duration 1½ hours. Join the resort management team as you cruise out into Hazard Bay to witness the sun setting over the Australian coastline. Conferences and Weddings at Orpheus Island

The wedding dinner will be an evening to remember. Indulge in a seven-course degustation menu that is sure to take your taste buds on a gastronomic tour, whilst privately dining with the tides. Or alternatively, enjoy a decadent tropical seafood platter in the privacy of your own room whilst listening to the soothing sounds of soft background music of your choice.
Orpheus Island Resort is able to cater for groups from eight through to forty-two people (based on twin/double share rooms). The resort is able to be booked on a sole use basis also. Conferences are welcome at Orpheus Island Resort on a sole use basis only. The resort is able to accommodate conferences in the air-cooled quiet lounge. The room is located 10 metres from the main beach with views to the ocean. Orpheus Island Resort is the definitive venue for an indulgent sole use incentive. A variety of land and water based activities can be arranged to suit your requirements.
The Catamaran
Orpheus Island Resort is proud to announce the acquisition of a new purpose built boat. Named Orpheus, the vessel is a beautifully appointed 32 foot Cougar Catamaran with a comfortable cruising speed of 21 knots (39 kph) and top speed of 40 knots (74 kph). Equipped with a toilet, shower, and canopy with ample shade, Orpheus assures a comfortable day on the water. The vessel is capable of carrying up to 12 guests to the outer reef, and up to 18 guests in the sheltered waters around the Palm Isle Group.
The vessel provides access to several new local snorkel and dive sites. **Additionally, guests may opt to board Orpheus to embark on a full day trip to the wonders of the outer reef. Spend the day swimming, snorkelling, diving and lounging in the sun, whilst being tempted by our sumptuous picnic hamper lunch.
Activities at Orpheus Island
Diving The Great Barrier Reef - Orpheus Island is a true Great Barrier Reef island. The surrounding waters contain what is regarded by experts to be some of the best coral on the entire Barrier reef. The Great Barrier Reef islands are best explored by snorkelling or diving - 1,100 species of fish and 340 of the 350 known species of reef coral.
NOTE: To avoid any disappointment, we ask that you advise us at the time of booking if you would like to dive whilst staying at Orpheus Island Resort. Failure to do so may result in the inability to dive due to no availability. Pre-booking essential and subject to weather conditions. Prerequisite : Medical Requirements.
Snorkelling at Orpheus Island - Snorkelling is a fantastic way to explore the wonders of the reef. At Orpheus Island Resort, we take pride in the fact that every person in the water who is snorkelling or diving has the highest standards of skills necessary for their own safety and for the preservation of the Reef areas we frequent.
Guided Walks on Orpheus Island - a premium nature based hideaway, surrounded by 1,300 hectares of pristine national park, Orpheus offers guided and unguided bushwalking throughout the park allowing you to explore the local flora, fauna and wildlife. There are three clear walking tracks within the national park offering a wide range of scenery. The resort offers various guided and unguided walking tours. Some are an additional cost.
Interpretive Activities on Orpheus Island - a natural beauty of open woodland and rainforest draped national park, surrounded by sheltered bays with breathtaking turquoise waters and fringing coral reefs. This island paradise provides an exceptional environment that inspires a collection of enlightening nature activities available to guests.
Location and Transfers
Orpheus Island is a true Great Barrier Reef island, located 80 kilometres (50 miles) north of Townsville and 190 kilometres (120 miles) south of Cairns and is 24 kilometres (15 miles) offshore.
Orpheus Island stretches for 11 kilometres (7 miles) and comprises of 1,368 hectares of pristine National Park. Transfers are by scenic flight from Cairns (60 minutes) or Townsville (30 minutes).
