Itinerary
Depart Hobart - 8.30am
Our first destination today will be the Hobart Airport, where you will experience the thrill of a helicopter flight over one of the world’s most beautiful waterways and enjoy spectacular views of breathtaking coastlines. This 20 minute flight flies south from Hobart where the Derwent River broadens into the D’Entrecasteaux Channel, once a haven for sealers and whalers, now one of Hobart’s aquatic playgrounds. For many decades these waterways were the only roads of the first European settlers – the whalers ,timber millers and the inmates of southern convict stations.
Leaving the coastline we fly inland to the willow clad banks of the Huon River. You will then be invited to see the magnificent relections and the rare Huon Pine saplings growing in their natural environment, and to experience the thrill of white water jet boating through the gentle rapids and shingle beds of the Huon River.
From Huonville we journey to the Arve Valley and walk in the treetop canopy at the Tahune Forest AirWalk. This is a truly magical forest experience, up to 37 metres above the forest floor. The highest point of the 620 metre walk soars above the Huon River with a view of the confluence of the Picton and Huon Rivers.
Lunch – Tahunne AirWalk Café
On the return journey to Hobart we will visit the Wooden Boat Centre in the township of Franklin and see Tasmania’s fine boat-building timbers being crafted into beautiful wooden boats and discover the rich history surrounding Tasmania’s boat building heritage.
Return to Hobart – Approximately 5.00pm
