The Freycinet Experience Walk and Accommodation
Eco Experience - at the Freycinet Experience Walk, it’s our every day endeavour to make the environmental footprint of what we do as minimal as possible. Friendly Beaches Lodge is an Eco-Lodge in the truest sense of the word, winning awards for its sustainable design, and by returning to the Lodge each night, rather than maintaining multiple lodges or camps on the Freycinet Peninsula, we minimise our environmental footprint.

A lodge-based walk also makes for a wonderful group dynamic, allowing us to enjoy evenings of great company and conversation around our dinner table each night - and of course, beautifully prepared fresh food. For the duration of your stay, the lodge is for you and your walking party alone to enjoy; a true haven.

Location of Friendly Beaches Lodge
Tucked into pristine coastal forest of native pines, banksia and wattle, Friendly Beaches Lodge is a place to unwind, go slow, watch visiting wildlife and appreciate the peace and has been called the Invisible Lodge. Set on a secluded 130 acre property, surrounded by Freycinet National Park, you’ll retreat here after a long day’s walking to take a hot bath, browse in the library, eat a delicious dinner and sleep in a real bed. This is a walkers’ lodge that offers comfort and style without pretention: expect comfort, naturalness and a real sense of tranquillity.

Facilities at Friendly Beaches Lodge
The lodge is not connected to the electricity or town water grids: the sun and the rain provide energy for our lighting and water for baths and showers. Composting toilets ensure we keep the lodge’s beautiful setting pristine. The lodge’s busy kitchen also produces minimal waste and we have a comprehensive recycling program. Staying at Friendly Beaches Lodge, and walking the Freycinet Peninsula with us, you can be sure that it’s not only your comfort that is catered for, but also the environment. We encourage guests to charge batteries for digital cameras before they embark on this journey. The property does not have mobile phone coverage.

Living at Friendly Beaches Lodge
A shared dining and living area and two sleeping lodges known as North and South which branch off from the main lodge. North and South have a collection of double and twin rooms to suit everyone’s accommodation needs. They both incorporate a relaxed lounge area with a cosy wood-burning stove, a shared bathroom with a claw foot bath, a separate shower room and two composting toilets. We can offer individual travellers their own private room at no extra cost.

Dining at Friendly Beaches Lodge
You will share splendid meals and regional wines in great company. Menus include fresh local flathead, oysters, grain-fed beef and excellent fresh local produce and wines. The emphasis is in fresh, healthy and delicious. We are happy to cater for special dietary requirements. Let us know on your booking form what your needs are.

**Hiking Boots - these must have support and a treaded sole. It is company policy to only allow guests with ankle support boots to climb Mt Graham on Day 2. For those wearing new hiking boots you should purchase a Spenco blister Kit to protect those areas that will be affected by the friction of new shoes prior to the walk.

The Freycinet Experience Walk - Founder
The Freycinet Experience Walk was established in 1992 by former town planner Joan Masterman. Together with architect Ken Latona, Joan had been instrumental in setting up Tasmania’s first hut-based guided walk along the famous Overland Track in 1987. That background laid the groundwork for the establishment of Friendly Beaches Lodge and the creation of The Freycinet Experience Walk. Joan is deeply committed to caring for the environment and is still involved in every aspect of operating the walk and the lodge. She also has a talent for attracting outstanding people to staff her walks: the wonderful guides and lodge hosts that help to make the walk such a special experience.
