Saddles, Stockmen and Steers - (Seasonal) - 5 Days/4 Nights
Day 1
Executive car pick-up and transfer to the airport. Fly direct to Gawler airstrip in the Barossa, where we transfer to the beautiful and luxurious vineyard retreat, The Louise. After lunch we transfer to Silversands Natural Horsemanship Centre. Here we are met by Steve Halfpenny, the owner and real-life “horse whisperer”. Spend the afternoon with Steve, and his wife Irena, learning how a horse thinks and learns, and how to control a horse accurately in all sorts of different environments. Return to The Louise for a fabulous meal in their award winning Appellation Restaurant.
Day 2
After breakfast, we head back to Silversands where we spend the day fine-tuning everything we learnt yesterday, taking in the amazing mallee scrub on trail rides. This evening we return to The Louise for another wonderful dinner and night’s sleep after our “day in the saddle”.
Day 3
Today we fly direct to the impressive 900,000 acre Wilpoorina Station to meet owners Gordon and Lyn Litchfield, your horse and then to saddle up. Lunch is had in the outback, stockman style, “on the hoof”. The afternoon is spent on horse-back moving cattle against the back drop of the incredible Flinders Ranges. It’s a camp-fire dinner tonight of local beef and lamb with garden fresh vegetables and local bush berry sauces. Then its time to gaze up into a billion Outback stars whilst sleeping in a traditional Aussie “swag”.
Day 4
Breakfast this morning is bacon, eggs and “damper” (camp oven bread) with fresh fruit and cereals and plenty of “billy tea” Then it’s back on your horse this morning as you continue your cattle drive through some of the most beautiful and rugged country in outback Australia. After lunch it’s the short trip to the Prairie Hotel, Parachilna with their ensuited rooms and dinner in their famous restaurant. Indulge this evening at dinner in the hotel restaurant, choosing from the outback menu with such Australian delicacies as a mixed platter of kangaroo fillet, goat chop, camel sausage and emu patty.
Day 5
After breakfast, and perhaps a morning swim at the hotel, take the time to wander around this world renowned Outback town of Parachilna, population 5, and grab a souvenir or two to take home with you. We then board the aircraft bound for Adelaide after your last outback lunch.
