Watego’s is the choice location where you will find Byron Bay Villa. Here local surfers are forced to share the waves with the occasional dolphin while from the beach (and Villa) you can enjoy breathtaking sunsets over the ocean. Surrounded by established tropical plants and luscious palms, the Byron Bay Villa backs directly onto a nature reserve that is just a few meters from the famous coastal walk that meanders to the Cape Byron Lighthouse - Australia’s most Easterly point.
Watego’s was named after Lloyd Watego who once farmed this spectacular secret valley with bananas. Today there still may be the odd banana tree but this beautiful north facing beach, with its crystal water and white sand beach is better known for its perfect north facing beach. Seasoned surfers and beach combers argue that the aspect of Watego’s which has the protection from the prevailing winds is the best in Byron. The continuous rolling waves of Watego’s beach gently turn from the east making it a favourite with Malibu board riders especially - you can see them ‘hang five’ from the villa’s deck.
Forty years ago Byron was a whaling station today it’s a whale and dolphin watching epicenter, where residents are laid back and creative ranging from artists, surfers, environmentalists, hippies and the occasional celebrity. As Byron shire is surrounded by breathtaking hinterland we recommend a drive to Bangalow, Mullumbimby and if you wish to see forest dwelling hippy culture - Nimbin.
During your stay at the villa you will soak up the views and enjoy spectacular sunsets. Your days can be as laid back or adventurous as you wish. Invigorating is an early morning jog along the coastal track to the light house followed by a surf or swim. A 10-minute walk will take you into Byron’s central hub where you will find hours of retail therapy. Artists and creative types sit alongside guitar strumming hippies while suntanned beach bums rub shoulders with city sophisticates and the odd celebrity.
