Milton Park is the epitome of relaxed sophistication, making for the perfect romantic weekend, wedding destination, special event, conference or corporate venue. But for those merely seeking a Southern Highlands bushwalking, sporting, gourmet or shopping weekend – or all of the above – there’s certainly no disappointment.

Relaxation begins as soon as you enter the Milton Park estate. As you climb the hill the stresses of the city are left far behind. Enjoy our leisure pursuits or create your own. The estate proper totals 340 hectares, the hotel and the formal gardens which are considered to be among Australia’s finest, occupy a mere 12 hectares. The remainder is working land, complete with cows gently grazing on the long, green Southern Highlands grass.

Other leisure pursuits include tennis, bocce or croquet, swimming in Milton Park’s majestic indoor pool, strolling in the splendid gardens, or a brisk walk along a track that winds for five kilometres around the picturesque woodland estate. The library is filled with contemporary and antique volumes, which you’re invited to peruse while enjoying the deep, comfortable sofas and chairs in the sitting rooms. In the colder months – the large, open fires light up the Manor with a warmth and comfort impossible to replicate via artificial heating.

Accommodation at Milton Park Country House Hotel
Despite its 51 rooms, including seven suites, the hotel retains the feel of an opulent Victorian stately home. The hotel’s luxurious Garden Courtyard Rooms, Towers Suites and Forest Suites are surprisingly large featuring antique and period furnishings, with the more exclusive suites boasting gas log fires, ensuite spa baths, private terraces, four-poster beds and bay windows.

Several of the common areas have a more formal feel, with a mixture of genuine and reproduction Victorian furniture of the highest quality. Although the building has been modernised with fashionable pastel hues, the ambience is serene and interesting, a visual delight; portraits and old scenic paintings dot the walls. The corridors are adorned with collectables from days gone by and countries far away.

All the rooms have views, whether it’s of natural bushland, rolling hills or the charming courtyard garden with a large fountain – a favourite watering hole of local lorikeets. Although close to Bowral, Milton Park is far enough away for the town to be distant, unheard and unseen.

The bathrooms are large, with a shower-over-bath arrangement The charming bathroom furnishings, reinforcing the French provincial feel, are a real plus. Cosy bathrobes are provided for guests.

The Carriage House contains seven bedrooms, the Carriage Master Cottage contains 3 bedrooms, spacious lounge area with open fireplace and an outdoor entertaining deck. The Carriage House and the Carriage Masters Cottage is perfect for a group of friends or family members wishing to enjoy the relaxed beauty and sophistication that is Milton Park.

Dining at Milton Park Country House Hotel
It’s sheer delight to enjoy a drink before dinner in the intimate wood-panelled bar before moving on to Hordern’s Restaurant. The original 'Garden Room', now the restaurant, allows the visitor a hint of past genteel luxury and offers a splendid, relaxing view once enjoyed by the original owners.

Milton Park’s award-winning restaurant, open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, offers a fine modern Australian menu and a first-class wine list. The style is fresh local produce with a slight French influence in an uncomplicated set two or three-course deal. Lunch can also be served on the porch area poolside. The wait staff are very professional and attentive but non-intrusive, providing excellent service. The warm smoked salmon is superb, the char-grilled pork tenderloin and aged, grain-fed beef fillet are mouth-watering, and the selection of house sorbets is startling…certainly a taste bud temptation.

A breakfast buffet is made available in the conservatory, a delightfully airy and light-filled room overlooking the pool pavilion and garden. The buffet has a good selection, is refreshed frequently and is very tasty- with herbed scrambled eggs and fluffy pancakes among the standouts.

Weddings and Special Events
Although the hotel regularly hosts weddings and conferences, there’s little or no intrusion on other guests – the arrangement is reminiscent of one of those rambling old houses built like rabbit warrens, with rooms and areas hidden one from another.

The staff at Milton Park Country House Hotel are just delightful. There’s a feeling of true country welcome and generosity. Milton Park employs a fulltime wedding planner to assist and they are only too pleased to ensure your special event is perfect in every way and a day to remember. The structure of the house means that the reception desk is unobtrusive and informal; refreshingly, you can actually sit down while completing the obligatory information.

The gardens of Milton Park carry echoes of the famed Secret Garden. Australia's oldest and largest Variegated Tulip tree, Weeping Beeches, Elms and Oaks are features of this spectacular property. There are many private areas with tiny fountains and arbours magnificent for those special but relaxed wedding photos. Open to the public for just two weeks in the Spring, the gardens may be enjoyed by hotel, wedding and restaurant guests all year round. A guided tour can be arranged if you wish.
