"Rockpool’s location would have to be the most tranquil setting for a lodge in Thredbo. It is in such a quiet, secluded spot so there is absolutely no noise from traffic or passers by. The beautiful creek at the back door adds to the serenity. Extremely well appointed and champagne in the spa to rest the weary muscles from a strenuous day’s skiing just topped off each day. We had a wonderful holiday”. Rockpool Lodge is located on the ski slope side of Thredbo Village. In winter, with good snow conditions Rockpool is a ski in ski out lodge.

Accommodation at Rockpool Lodge
Rockpool Lodge is Thredbo’s newest 5 Star destination providing luxury accommodation in absolute seclusion. Rockpool Lodge is situated in a naturally beautiful setting which not only allows easy access to the best Thredbo has to offer, but a stunning environment in which to enjoy the best Nature has to offer.

This house has it all. The use of natural timbers brings the outside in. Timber cupboards, bedroom suites and feature panelling mix well with the modern contemporary furnishings. The bathrooms feature glass mirrors and doors complimented by the clean, fresh look of the white porcelain basins. The bedrooms ooze class and quality with crisp, pure white linen highlighted by gold trimmed cushions in bone, off white and chocolate. The design is professional, exquisite and certainly five star.

The porch entrance to Rockpool Lodge is very welcoming. The large timber poles lift the roof line high above and the timber door begs to be opened. To the left of the foyer you will find ski racks, a drying room and the entrance to the Spa retreat. This is a peaceful, private and romantic place to relax and soothe tired muscles at the end of a long day mountain biking or skiing the slopes. You will find plenty of places to perch your champagne bottle and glasses along with a tempting tapas platter- difficult to leave here.

To the right of the foyer you will find a well equipped laundry and further along the downstairs bathroom. You will be delighted with the warm, inviting, relaxed feel of the spacious and very open planned lounge, living, dining and kitchen area. The kitchen is a chef’s dream come true. Fitted with high quality stainless steel appliances and having ample bench top space you can easily cook up a quick snack or a five star meal.

Large doors open out onto the timber decking of the large verandah - an ideal spot to dine at the outdoor setting under the stars for a summer barbecue or you can perch on the bench seat to soak in the magnificent snow covered mountain views in winter. Upstairs you will find 2 x queen sized bedrooms - one with an ensuite bathroom complete with bath and shower and the other with its separate bathroom close by. It is here on the 2nd level you will also find the indoor sauna - the place to warm sore muscles and relax the entire body before bed or before tackling another gruelling day. The loft is upstairs from here and is the ideal kids retreat having a television, couch and plenty of space to spread out.

Summer Activities
Knowing the best way to enjoy Rockpool Lodge will make all the difference to your holiday. Some suggested activities are noted below:

Mountain Biking - Make sure you book your bikes in advance over busy periods like Christmas and Easter. If it's your first time, book into an orientation course. The Cannonball Run is challenging and you will need to wear body armour, but it's loads of fun! If you can ski down it in the Winter, you can ride down it in the Summer!

Bobsled - The Bobsled run will keep the kids (and adults) entertained for hours. Push the stick forward to maintain maximum speed as you roll down the mountain on the custom built track. The Bobsled is located between Woodridge and Valley Terminal.

Walking - Take the lift to the top of the mountain and complete the walk to Mt. Kosciuszko, or walk back down the mountain through Dead Horse Gap. The Snowy Mountains has unique and rich fauna and flora for you to enjoy.

Tennis - Contact Thredbo Sports to book Tennis Courts near Valley Terminal.

Chairlift and Facilities - Snowgums Chairlift is open from 9am - 4.30pm for sightseeing and access to the Main Range. Black Sallees is open for lunch and snacks at the top of Snowgums. Village Square is open for your shopping and eating pleasure. Great place to soak up the sun and watch the world go by.

Golfing - Thredbo Golf Course open daily (frost permitting). Clubs, fees and score cards available from Thredbo Sports.

Party - Christmas and New Year are celebrated in style in Thredbo. Enjoy a special Christmas lunch in Thredbo Village or if you wish to see the old year out and the new one in - New Years Eve is always a biggie, plenty planned to kick off the New Year - bookings are essential.

Winter Activities
Skiing / Snowboarding - Thredbo is Australia's Premier Ski Resort with the longest ski runs in the country, and the largest snow making facilities in the Southern Hemisphere.

If you have several children, it is easiest to load up the car with the kids and their stuff, and drive down to Friday Flat and park in the 15min loading bay. Once they're in ski school, take the car back to the lodge. Walk down Mountain Drive taking the signed left turn to Friday Flat. Pick up the Gunbarrel Lift and you’re away. It is best not to ski down to Friday Flat at the end of your day. Although in good snow you can ski to the front door, at other times ski as far as you can down to the top of the bobsled run (Sundance Run off the Supertrail), then walk down the track to Rockpool Lodge.

Leisure Centre - The AIS Leisure Centre is a short walk from Rockpool Lodge and has a large heated pool, gymnasium, squash courts, and a waterslide and "Mission Inflatable" for the kids (or young at heart).

Village Square - Village Square is open for all your shopping needs. Relax and take time to enjoy the pleasure of sampling the finest cuisine at the various eateries within the centre. The hub of the mountain is a great place to warm up, meet up with friends for a break and watch the world go by.

Getting to Rockpool Lodge
Driving from Sydney: 5 – 6½ hours 500km (approximately)
Follow the Hume Highway from Sydney then just south of Goulburn take the Federal Highway and travel south to Canberra. At Canberra follow the signs to the Monaro Highway to Cooma. The road then joins the Kosciuszko Rd that you follow through the town of Berridale and onto Jindabyne. Just past Jindabyne Town Centre take a left onto the Alpine Way to Thredbo. You will go through the National Park Entrance Station, and then it is only 13km to Thredbo and snow riding bliss.

Driving from Melbourne: 5½ - 7 hours 500km (approx.)
Follow the Hume Highway from Melbourne to Wodonga. Take the Murray Valley Highway "To Wodonga / Tallangatta" exit and follow the signs "To Tallangatta" Then after passing Wodonga follow the signs to Tallangatta again on the Murray Valley Highway. You pass through the village of Koetong onto Corryong. Drive through Corryong and take the "Khancoban" turn off on your right. Once in Khancoban you are only 76kms from Thredbo. From here the drive is truly spectacular as you take in awesome views of the Main Range and discover the beauty of the Kosciuszko National Park. The roads are clear for most of the year but when a big snowfall hits, chains may be required for some 2-wheel vehicles. An alternate route from Melbourne is the Kosciuszko Alpine Way, which lets you experience the wonder of the Snowy Mountains as you wind along the great Murray River.

Snow Chains: The roads are clear for most of the year, but when the big snowfalls hit, chains may be required for 2 wheel drives. Chains can be hired in Jindabyne and Khancoban. When hiring they will need to know your tyre size and be sure to ask them about any fitting tips. A tip from us is to practise fitting your chains and also make sure you pack an old blanket to use when fitting them.

National Park Fees: The NPW Service collect park use fees upon entry to the park. You can purchase your pass from the Entrance Station 13km before you get to Thredbo, the Snowy Region Visitors Centre in Jindabyne, the National Parks Visitors Centre in Khancoban, or the Thredbo Newsagency.
