Pilots fly guests across Cape Barren Island and make a spectacular orbit of Wineglass Bay before arriving in Hobart. You are introduced to the city of Hobart during a tour which eventually finds guests at the exciting Salamanca Markets. Travel to the historic town of Richmond. One significant site is the convict-built bridge over the river, known as the oldest bridge in Australia. Guests will be free to stroll around this historic village. Return to Hobart to refresh for a special dinner at Mures on the Upper Deck of this acclaimed seafood restaurant. Accommodation is at the grand Hadley’s Hotel, Hobart or similar.
Day Three: Hobart - Maatsuyker - Strahan
Enjoying breakfast at Hadley's Hotel, AAA guests are soon to resume taking to the air for an amazing scenic flight around the southern-most lighthouse and tiny coastal islands of Australia, namely the Maatsuyker Group. AAA pilots will decide either to then track north to over-fly Lake Pedder and the Gordon River or to follow the coast, dependent upon pilot's discretion considering the southerly winds and weather. This afternoon is spent cruising on Tasmania’s grand Gordon River. The cruise begins with a journey out through Hell’s Gates, the narrow entrance to the harbour. The Gordon River valley houses ancient huon pine forests. One of the huon pine trees AAA guides often stop at, is said to be more than 2,000 years young. Emerging from the river, cross Macquarie Harbour once more to the infamous Sarah Island. In Captains Upperdeck class, enjoy premium Tasmanian produce on board. Time to rest. Accommodation is at Strahan Village Cottages or similar.
Day Four: Strahan - King Island - Melbourne
This morning rejoin your aircraft as pilots depart Strahan flying to King Island. King Island is predominantly known for its fromagerie, however, lobster or crayfish is a staple food for islanders. Lunch today will showcase the local produce.
Tour over-land using private vehicle to explore King Island’s various natural, historic and man-made features. Visits are made to the Kelp Factory and the world renowned King Island Dairy. Make celebratory purchases of various cheeses as souvenirs to take home. Pilots depart King Island late-afternoon to cross Bass Strait, soaring to Cape Otway and following the Great Ocean Road via Apollo Bay, Lorne, Anglesea and The Heads to Essendon Airport, Melbourne by 1830.
