Created by the partnership of James and Hayley Baillie, the company is founded on rare credentials perfectly suited to deliver an exceptional product that is both in line with premium market expectations and adhering to strict environmental principals.

James and Hayley Baillie established Baillie Lodges in 2003 with the launch of beautiful Capella Lodge on Lord Howe Island as the first property in their portfolio of luxury, high end lodges in places of natural significance. Together they enjoy decades of experience establishing iconic Australian properties such as Lizard Island, Silky Oaks Lodge, Heron Island, Cradle Mountain Lodge and Bedarra Island, as well as providing nature history programs for the world’s most prestigious expedition cruise lines.

Southern Ocean Lodge Design
Southern Ocean Lodge was designed by local architect Max Pritchard. Born and raised on Kangaroo Island, Max’s aim was to create a design sensitive to the location and climate. With low visual impact the building appears to float on the landscape and uses a signature palette of materials – primarily local limestone, recycled timbers and glass – which blend seamlessly within the landscape. Combined with designer furnishings and custom artworks, the property aims to be fresh and contemporary but with a glamorous undertone.
