Getting to Falls Creek
By Road: Falls Creek is an easy day’s drive from Sydney or just four and a half hours drive from Melbourne. The road to Falls Creek from Mount Beauty gently winds uphill for 32 kms, so take your time and please drive carefully. During winter it is compulsory to carry snow chains however the road is regularly cleared of snow as required and chains are rarely fitted. If chains are required then drivers will be notified by signs along the road 'Fit Chains Here'. These signs will differentiate, depending on whether 4WD’s are impacted or not.
No petrol is available at Falls Creek so make sure you fill up before you come up. In winter, diesel vehicles should fill up with Alpine Diesel from Mt Beauty or other local suppliers to ensure their vehicle works correctly in the cold conditions. Drivers should also check at the local service stations their anti-freeze levels. This can be done with a 'Glycometer' and may save you a lot of time and money.
Resort Entry - During winter all visitors and residents must pay to enter the Falls Creek resort. These fees cover the resort’s ski patrol, car parking, visitor information service, snow-clearing operations, water supply and waste removal service.
During the season Resort Entry can be purchased at selected retail outlets off mountain, or at Howmans Gap Resort Entry station located four kilometres down from Falls Creek. Off mountain outlets include Kiewa Valley Ski Hire, Bogong Ski Centre, Rocky Valley Ski Hire and Ski Plus in Tawonga South plus the A-Team Ski Hire in Tawonga and Ray's Ski Shop in Myrtleford.
