Located some 300kms south of Darwin and 32kms from Katherine town centre, Cicada Lodge is situated on the riverfront of the picturesque Katherine River, centrally positioned below the escarpment and Nitmiluk Gorge entrance. Cicada Lodge is privately and wholly-owned by the entrepreneurial Jawoyn people. The Lodge is within walking distance of the boat departure point, heli pad and walking tracks.
Showing an incredible commitment to the preservation of the environment, the resort structures will rest above ground on concrete plinths, and all building materials will be wheeled in by hand. This same pathway will become a raised boardwalk, meandering through untamed bushland to the reception area. Overlooking an infinity pool, the reception and lounge area is where each guest will be greeted with a traditional ‘Welcome to Country’.
NOTE: Cicada Lodge is expected to open approximately 2012.

Accommodation at Cicada Lodge
Cicada Lodge delivers the highest standards of non-intrusive, world-class service in modern, MKEA Architects-designed, fully air-conditioned and fanned private rooms and suites; each elegantly furnished in a contemporary, sophisticated style fusing international and Australian design elements. Enhancing the guest experience will be the attention to detail within the resort.
Cicada Loge has a total of 10 rooms comprising of six luxury rooms and four suites. Our rooms are configured as either a Double (1 x king bed) or Twin Share (1 x zip king). The Lodge’s design emphasises and facilitates natural airflow, while blending well with its surrounds and the panoramic windows help create the visual effect of inviting the outside in.
The Lodge will even celebrate the park’s monsoonal climate – seasonal tropical rains ensure Cicada Lodge has access to an unlimited supply of fresh water and the giant 250mm “raindrop” showerheads in every bathroom (each complete with a luxury spa) have been specifically designed to pay tribute to the giant tropical monsoon raindrops.
Furnishings cleverly harness the Jawoyn People’s colours of rich ochres and earthy browns, the orange hues of sunrise and sunset and the muted greens of the Australian bush. Every room will host original Indigenous paintings and soaps produced using native ingredients will be available from the handcrafted native woven basket ware displayed in the bathroom. All guests will enjoy world-best Egyptian cotton bed and bathroom linen, crystal glassware and Bvlgari guest amenities.
Suites boast private plunge pools and the rooms will feature baths that jut out from the structure so that it feels as if bathing is being done outside. Due to the clever positioning of the suites and use of native bushland as screens, utmost privacy is still assured.

The Nitmiluk National Park is gouged with a series of deeply etched gorges; a total of thirteen woven through by the Katherine River. Upon the plains, fat water buffalo roam and brumbies (wild horses) live an unfettered existence. The only trails to be seen from above are those that have been made by such creatures as they plough through the long, golden grass.
Local rock art tells stories of intriguing events as diverse as the sighting of Dutch mariners, and the presence of Tasmanian Tigers. So prevalent are the paintings that it’s fair to say that almost every freshwater swimming hole is located adjacent to yet another ancient masterpiece. There’s a deeply spiritual feel that’s unmistakable as one sits at the base of towering red sandstone cliffs. At night, a tapestry of stars cloaks skies devoid of light pollution; the only sounds breaking the silence are those of crickets serenading, and water gurgling across rock.
An extensive range of activities are available for guests beginning at Cicada Lodge. Nitmiluk Tours is a wholly owned Indigenous company and the Jawoyn people (traditional landowners) invite experience seekers to encounter this ancient landscape and one of Australia’s most impressive outback regions. Whether its culture, wildlife, adventure, beauty, romance, relaxation or just pure indulgence-an exclusive touring package can be tailored to suit each individual.
