Kooljaman is the Bardi Aboriginal name for Cape Leveque. The camp is 220kms north of Broome on the Dampier Peninsula, and reached either by air from Broome or by 4WD on a fairly rugged road. Kooljaman is a pristine, unique wilderness camp in a beautiful and remote coastal location. The amazing landscape, abundant wildlife, stunning beaches, cultural tours, boat charters, swimming, snorkelling and fishing, all guarantee an extraordinary holiday experience.

Accommodation at Kooljaman at Cape Leveque
The lodgings are impressive, but perhaps the best thing is the location. Set high above the peninsula, our safari tent offers panoramic views to the east, north and west. Red earth meets pure white sand and aqua blue water in a striking image, iconic of so much of Australia’s west coast. Our balcony quickly becomes our favourite place to relax, the ocean stretching so far we can clearly see the curve in the horizon.

Safari Tents - The stunning safari tents are built on raised timber decking high on the hillside to take advantage of the unobstructed panoramic ocean views. . Set up with resort style queen sized beds, all tents have their own bathrooms and self contained kitchenettes. Each tent has a huge Jarrah deck, quality fixtures and fittings throughout, tea and coffee facilities, full size fridge/freezer, and a gourmet gas barbecue on the veranda. All have a queen bed plus 2 x singles. Bath towels and bed linen supplied.

Ensuite Cabins - Set just back from the beach in a secluded bush setting, each cabin has 1 x queen bed and 3 x single beds along with a private bathroom-ideal for the larger family. The Cabins come equipped with mosquito nets, ceiling fans, fridge/freezer, tea and coffee making facilities, an outdoor setting and a gas barbecue. Basic camping style cooking equipment is supplied and includes pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, tea towel and dishwashing requirements.

Log Cabins (Shared Bathroom) - These charming cabins are constructed from bush poles with a tin roof and big opening shutters. Most have beautiful water views and are no more than 100metres from the waters edge. Each cabin sleeps 4 people (1 x queen bed and 2 x singles) and toilet and shower facilities are shared between two cabins.

The Cabins come equipped with mosquito nets, ceiling fans, fridge/freezer, tea and coffee making facilities, an outdoor setting and a gas barbecue. Basic camping style cooking equipment is supplied and includes pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, tea towel and dishwashing requirements.

Dining at Kooljaman at Cape Leveque
Dinkas Restaurant overlooks Kooljaman’s Eastern Beach with delightful views from the Alfresco dining area. While closed during low season- from April to mid October the restaurant is open for lunch daily offering takeaway style lunches and Tues-Sat for counter/pub style evening meals (subject to minimum numbers). Bookings are essential. Children’s meals are available and special dietary requirements can usually be catered for by pre-arrangement.

Bush Butler (Room Service) - For guests wanting to enjoy the beautiful serenity and views from their private balcony, we offer a ‘Bush Butler’ service. Gourmet barbecue dinners are prepared in our restaurant including premium cuts of meat or fish, salads, garlic bread and condiments. These are delivered to guests’ rooms by our ‘Bush Butler’ and placed in their refrigerator to cook up on their barbecue when ready to dine. Self catering full or continental breakfast baskets are also available. Bush Butler meals are provided year round, though some variation may occur in produce available at certain times of year.

At Kooljaman the beaches are stunning white sands and clear water with negligible surf, water temperature of around 26 degrees in June/July/August, increasing up to 33 degrees during Jan/Feb/March.

Road Transfers - Road transfers are available from Broome with various operators, departure days, travel times and prices vary.

Self Drive - 4WD hire cars (conditions apply) hired in Broome are ideal for the journey up to Cape Leveque. The drive from Broome takes approximately 3 hours, on a fairly rough road but well worth the effort once you reach Kooljaman.

Air Travel - Kooljaman has a private airstrip on site. King Leopold Air ex Broome offer a one hour charter flight to Kooljaman (Min 2 pax each way).Flights by light plane operate April - early November (Tue/Thu/Sat/Sun).
