Thorn Park on the Island is located on Kangaroo Island one of South Australia’s most popular and spectacular tourist destinations. Thirty minutes by plane or a two-and-a-half hour trip by car and Sealink ferry, the island is located south of Adelaide. Thorn Park on the Island is a modern three bedroom beach house, boasting absolute privacy, total luxury holiday living for maximum 6 guests and superb views over the harbour and township of Penneshaw.

Accommodation at Thorn Park - on the island

On Kangaroo Island, you step back in time. The pace is slower and nature still rules in all her pristine glory. Travellers circle the globe to see the Island’s koalas, wallabies, fairy penguins and raucous fur seals. The reasons to visit Kangaroo Island are many, but here you can simply relax in luxurious style at Thorn Park - on the Island, a sister property to the renowned Thorn Park - by the Vines in the Clare Valley. And what a feast it can be - Kangaroo Island is celebrated for its seafood, wines and gourmet goodies, which you can gather as you wander the island exploring its natural and man-made highlights. Thorn Park-on the island is light and bright with large north facing windows that provide an expansive view of the countryside, township and sea. The property is furnished with high quality furniture and interesting artworks, but maintains a relaxed and comfortable ambience. The mood is that of an exclusive city club gone beachside, with deep sofas, absorbing artworks, walls of books and a gourmet kitchen well stocked. The house has three individual reverse cycle split system air-conditioners and additional heaters if required so climate control at ‘on the island’ is at your fingertips. Penneshaw has mains water (it is the only area in South Australia serviced with desalinated water), whilst Thorn Park - on the island boasts s also on rainwater. Thorn Park on the Island is suited to groups of two to six, children are welcome and the property is safe for young families. The large open plan sitting/dining room has flat screen television, video/DVD player, a sound system including a large selection of records and CD’s plus a selection of books and games. The spacious living area opens onto a large deck overlooking the sea and small harbour where the Sealink ferry from the mainland arrives. A second smaller living area doubles as an office and library with a very large selection of books and DVD’s and has a comfortable sofa and work desk. This room also overlooks the ocean. The large main bedroom has a king-sized bed, flat screen television and DVD, its own bathroom, expansive views over the countryside and ocean. It also has its own private deck. The second bedroom has a queen size bed while the third bedroom also has a queen bed which can be 2 x twin singles if required and both share a bathroom. All three bedrooms boast woollen and cotton blankets, doonas and high quality bed linen, pillows and towels. Please bring your own beach towels. The gourmet chef’s kitchen is fully equipped with microwave oven, dishwasher, European fan forced electric oven and ceramic cook tops. If you are planning a casual meal in or a formal dinner party, there is a full selection of pots and pans and all quality glassware, cutlery and crockery is supplied.

At Thorn Park - on the Island, you will find the pantry cupboard has a range of herbs, spices, oils, flours etc. Guests are asked to replace items as they are finished. The local supermarket and bottle shop in the village is extremely good and is open 8am to 8pm daily.

There is a gas kettle style barbecue for outdoor dining and to ensure your comfort we have provided a gas heater on the deck for cool winter nights along with a large market umbrella to provide shelter on a hot summer day. The grassy area overlooking the ocean is the ideal spot to relax.

For your convenience, there is a laundry with a front load washing machine and dryer. A telephone is available, however calls do incur charges. Thorn Park - on the island is not serviced during your stay but an additional service can be arranged on request. Guests are asked to leave the house clean and tidy with dishes done.
