Paul Blain and Spicers Tamarind welcomes the gastronomic end of the holiday market where people are coming to relax and enjoy the indulgence of the food, the wine and the ambience of the area. We plan to offer A la carte, chef’s table, cooking classes, as well as celebrating the festivals of Thailand with specially themed gourmet degustation dinners.
Spicers Tamarind's restaurant brings a taste of Thailand to the foothills of Maleny. Set in a tranquil outdoor pavilion designed to make the most of peaceful location, Spicers Tamarind's restaurant specialises in traditional Royal Thai cuisine. Every dish with its traditional Thai flavours of sweet, sour and spicy will leave your mouth watering and your stomach begging for more. The ever changing menu is perfectly matched to both wine and beer by Spicers Tamarind's sommelier making Spicers Tamarind a true Queensland gourmet destination. The Tamarind can cater for 60 guests and offers a private dining area for parties up to 20 guests.

Cooking School at the Long Apron - Spicers Clovelly Estate’s (just 12 mins away at Montville) renowned chef, Cameron Matthews, holds French cooking classes one Saturday a month 10am - 3pm where you can cook, eat, laugh and learn how to make some of Cameron's truly incredible dishes. All classes are inclusive of lunch, wine, take-home The Long Apron branded apron, recipes from Cameron and a take-home gift. Note: Paul Blain set up The Tamarind - a small high class retreat in an idyllic spot beside Gardners Falls in Maleny ten years ago. Recently he sold the Tamarind to the prestigious Spicers Group of five star retreats, boutique hotels and lodges, and they persuaded Paul to stay on as chef and retreat host-manager.
Paul was classically trained in French and Italian cuisine before working at the original Darley Street Thai in Sydney in 1990 before establishing Chilli Jam Café in Noosa. Under the guidance of world famous Australian chef, David Thompson, Paul discovered the wonderful flavours and complexities of Thai cuisine. His continuing love affair with Thai cooking led him to travel to Thailand regularly to expand his knowledge and broaden his understanding of ingredients, techniques and recipes
